When Should I Start Applying for Scholarships?

There are many different things to keep in mind and questions to answer as you prepare for college. If you’re a junior or senior in high school, one question you may be asking yourself is, “When should I start applying for scholarships?” It’s a very important question, especially when over 1.7 million scholarships are awarded each year. That’s a lot of money to help you get through college. In this article, we’ll explain when to apply for college scholarships so you are prepared when the time comes.

When Do You Apply for Scholarships?

Technically, there are scholarships that you can apply for when you are as young as 4 years old. But, we’re going to focus on more traditional scholarship applications in this article. Generally, you should start applying for college scholarships between your junior and senior years in high school. This is because some scholarships have deadlines up to a year before you even start college.

However, each scholarship has its own specific deadline, so it’s important to start researching them as early as possible in order to not miss out. Doing so will also give you the best shot at being awarded a scholarship since you’ll be applying for a larger number of them.

If you don’t start applying for scholarships after your junior year, don’t worry! There are still millions of dollars waiting to be awarded before you start college. There are also some scholarships that aren’t awarded until you’ve already been admitted to a certain university, so the applications for those will come during your senior year in high school. During that year, there are generally three main periods for scholarship applications:

• Fall: August - December - These are some of the early scholarships for the following school year. Many deadlines are in October and December
• Spring: January - May - This is one of the busiest times to apply for money for the following school year. There are many scholarship deadlines spread out between January and May
• Summer: June - July - These are late deadlines that occur just a month or two before you attend college. Because of this, these are often very competitive since many people apply at the last minute
